App Notification Counters

Mobile-style badges on your Odoo apps, showing each user how many records arrived since they last looked.

New records arrive all day: website orders, vendor bills, tickets, applicants, sign-ups. Nothing on the Odoo home screen tells you which app they landed in, so people either check every app or find out too late.

This module puts a counter on the app icon, and on every menu down to the one that opens the records, so the badge leads you straight to them. Counters are per user: when you open the list, your badge clears and everyone else keeps theirs.

Why Use This Module?

Nothing Is Missed While You Are Away

Counting starts when the rule is created, not the next time you happen to open Odoo, so records that arrive overnight are still reported when you log in.

The Badge Leads You To The Record

The count appears on the app icon, on the section menu and on the menu item that actually opens the records, so you can follow it down instead of hunting.

Per User, Not Global

Every user has their own counter. One person opening the list does not clear the badge for everybody else.

Works With Any Model

A rule is a model, an optional filter and the menu that opens it. Sales orders, invoices, tickets, applicants, or your own custom model.

Respects Access Rights

Counting runs as the user, with record rules and company access applied, so a badge never promises records the user cannot open.

Common Use Cases & Benefits

Common Use Cases

  • See at a glance that a website order came in, without opening Sales to check.
  • Show the accounts team how many vendor bills arrived since they last worked on them.
  • Point support staff at new tickets, and recruiters at new applicants.
  • Badge any custom model your team watches, using a domain filter.
  • Give each user their own counter so a shared inbox does not clear itself.

Benefits

  • New work is noticed without anyone checking each app.
  • The badge leads to the exact menu that opens the records.
  • Records arriving while a user is logged out are still reported.
  • No per-record read table to grow, clean up or slow you down.
  • One request refreshes every badge on screen.
  • Counts never exceed what the user is allowed to open.
  • Badges also appear in the mobile app sidebar and section menus.
  • Configurable entirely from the interface, with no development.

How it works

  1. Install the module. On Odoo Enterprise the home menu companion installs itself alongside it.
  2. Open Settings > Technical > App Notifications.
  3. Press Create Suggested Rules to add one rule per installed app, or create your own.
  4. A rule is a model, the menu that opens those records, and an optional filter. The menu is filled in for you.
  5. Users now see a badge on the app icon, on the section menu, and on the menu item itself.
  6. Opening that menu clears the badge for that user. Everyone else keeps theirs.
  7. Optionally restrict a rule to user groups, ignore records the user created, or change the refresh interval.

Example

An order comes in from the website overnight:

The Sales app icon shows 1

Inside Sales, the Orders menu shows 1

So does Quotations, the menu that actually opens it

The first salesperson opens Quotations and their badge clears everywhere. Their colleague, who has not looked yet, still sees the 1. Opening the Sales app alone does not clear anything, otherwise the trail would disappear before it led anyone to the order.

  • A misconfigured rule is skipped, never fatal
  • Counts use the primary key, not unindexed dates

Version 19.0.1.0.0 | Released on : 13th August, 2026

NEW Badge counters on app icons showing how many records were created since the user last opened that app.
NEW The count climbs the whole menu chain, from the menu that opens the records up to the app icon, so the badge leads the user to them.
NEW Opening the target menu clears the badge for that user only; opening the app leaves the trail lit.
NEW Systray bell listing every app with its counts and the menu path, plus mark all as read.
NEW Rules for any model with an optional domain filter, group restriction, and the option to ignore records the user created.
NEW Create Suggested Rules builds one rule per installed app and resolves the menu automatically.
NEW Counting respects access rights, record rules and multi-company, so a badge never counts records the user cannot open.
NEW A separate free app, App Notification Counters - Enterprise Home Menu, badges the Odoo Enterprise home menu tiles. It installs itself once both apps are present.
Yes. On Community the badges appear in the apps menu. On Enterprise, install the free companion app App Notification Counters - Enterprise Home Menu and the home menu tiles are badged too. It installs itself as soon as both apps are present.
No. A rule starts counting from the moment it is created, so existing records are never reported. A user who joins later starts from the day they were created, rather than inheriting months of backlog.
No. Counting runs as the user, with access rights, record rules and company access applied, so the badge and the list always agree. A rule can also be limited to selected groups.
